Scott Baxendale and his son, John, own the Colfax Guitar Shop home of
Baxendale & Baxendale Custom Guitars. Scott started building acoustic
guitars in 1974 by going to work for S.L.Mossman guitars in Winfield,
Kansas, eventually becoming an assistant shop foreman. In 1978 Scott
went to Nashville and began work at Gruhn Guitars, specializing in the
restoration of vintage instruments. It was here that Scott began to
formulate the design ideas that are incorporated in guitars he produces
today. In 1985 Scott and his family purchased Mossman Guitars and moved
the manufacturing facility to Dallas, Tx. From 1985 to 1990 Scott built
250 acoustic guitars under the Mossman name. People who play and own
these guitars include: Joe Walsh, John Mellancamp, Jorma Kaukonen, James
Burton, Donovan, Carl Perkins, Greg Lake, Willie Nelson, Travis Tritt,
Chris Hillman, Dave Alvin, John Kay, Ray Wilie Hubbard, and B.J. Thomas.
Scott went to work at the Denver Folklore Center in 1993 and eventually
opened the Colfax Guitar Shop. It is here that his son began his
career as a guitar maker, and together Scott and John continue building
world class custom guitars and performing expert vintage restorations.
